Granting ILR allows you to stay in the UK indefinitely, making it
your permanent residence. Once you have ILR or ILE and your permanent home is in the UK, you are
considered present and settled in the UK. Following the grant of ILR, you can apply for naturalisation as
a British Citizen.

Residence Requirement: Generally, you can apply for ILR after living in the UK for at least 5
continuous years, although some visa categories offer accelerated routes to settlement.
1- Absences from the UK: Most work visa categories restrict absences from the UK to no more
than 180 days in any 12-month period during the ILR qualifying period. This restriction does not
apply to family members of British Citizens and settled persons.
2- General Grounds for Refusal: Your application should not fall under the general grounds for
refusal outlined in Part 9 of the Immigration Rules.
3- Life in the UK Test: Most ILR applicants must pass the Life in the UK test. Exemptions apply to
applicants over 65, under 18, or on medical grounds.
4- English Language Proficiency: Most applicants must demonstrate English proficiency at level B1
of the CEFR in listening and speaking. Exemptions apply to applicants over 65, under 18, or on
medical grounds.
ILR, also known as settlement, allows you to stay in the UK indefinitely, with no time limit on your residency.
If you are married to a British citizen, you can apply for naturalisation immediately after receiving ILR. If not, you can apply 12 months after receiving ILR. We offer a fixed fee for both your naturalisation application and first British passport application.
Your ILR remains valid if you are not absent from the UK for two or more consecutive years. Absences of two years or more will invalidate your ILR, requiring you to apply for ILE as a returning resident. If granted settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS), your status remains valid if you are not absent from the UK for five or more consecutive years.
