The ETA is digitally linked to
your passport and grants you permission to travel to the UK. Anyone wishing to enter the UK as a visitor
must obtain an ETA before traveling, as outlined in Appendix Electronic Travel Authorization of the
Immigration Rules.
The application process for the ETA follows the guidelines set out in Appendix Electronic Travel
Authorization of the Immigration Rules. Starting October 25, 2023, Qatari nationals intending to visit the
UK on or after November 15, 2023, can begin applying for an ETA. Similarly, starting February 1, 2024,
nationals of Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, or Saudi Arabia planning to visit
the UK on or after February 22, 2024, will be eligible to apply.
Applications can be submitted through the UK ETA app or online via GOV.UK. Typically, decisions are
made within three working days, though some cases may receive quicker responses. In situations
requiring additional checks, processing may take longer.
With an ETA, you are permitted to:
1- Visit the UK for up to 6 months for tourism, visiting family and friends, business, or study.
2- Stay in the UK for up to 3 months under the Creative Worker visa concession.
3- Transit through the UK.
Eligibility for the ETA
The ETA program is intended for third-country nationals visiting or transiting through the UK who do not
currently need a visa for short stays, as well as those utilizing the Creative Worker route for short stays.
Nationals of Qatar will need an ETA if they are traveling to the UK starting November 15, 2023. From
February 22, 2024, nationals of Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab
Emirates will also require an ETA. Additional countries will be added to the scheme in the future.
Requirements for the UK ETA
To apply for an ETA, you must meet the following criteria:
1- Submit your application through the official gov.uk website, using either the UK ETA mobile app
or the specified online form.
2- Provide a valid email address for communication from the Home Office.
3- Pay the required application fee.
4- Submit a passport that verifies your identity and nationality.
5- Provide a facial image that meets the digital photo standards on GOV.UK.
6- Seek permission to enter the UK as either a visitor (excluding Marriage/Civil Partnership Visitors)
for up to 6 months, or as a Creative Worker under paragraph CRV 3.2 of Appendix Temporary

of Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, or the United Arab Emirates planning to travel
to the UK on or after February 22, 2024.
Applicants lawfully residing in Ireland and traveling to the UK from within the Common Travel Area do
not need an ETA. A person is considered lawfully resident in Ireland if they are entitled to reside there
under applicable legislation or rules at the time of the ETA application. However, individuals who cannot
leave Ireland without an Irish Minister's consent are not considered lawfully resident.
To be granted an ETA, applicants must satisfy the following suitability criteria:
1- Exclusion or Deportation Grounds: The application will be refused if the Secretary of State has
directed the applicant's exclusion from the UK, or if the applicant is subject to an exclusion or
deportation order.
2- Criminality Grounds: The application will be denied if the applicant has been convicted of a
criminal offense in the UK or abroad, resulting in a custodial sentence of 12 months or more, or
if less than 12 months have passed since a conviction.
3- Non-Conducive Grounds: If the applicant’s presence in the UK is deemed not conducive to the
public good due to their behavior, character, associations, or other reasons, the application will
be refused.
4- Previous Breach of Immigration Laws: If the applicant, when aged 18 or over, has overstayed
their permission, breached conditions of their stay, been an illegal entrant, or used deception in
an immigration application, the ETA will be denied.
5- False Representations: If false representations, documents, or information were submitted
during the current or a previous ETA application, or if relevant facts were not disclosed, the
application will be refused.
6- Debt to the NHS: The application will be denied if the applicant has outstanding NHS charges
totaling at least £500.
7- Unpaid Litigation Costs: The application will be refused if the applicant has not paid litigation
costs awarded to the Home Office.
Duration of an ETA
An Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) is valid for two years from the date it is issued or until the
expiration of the passport used during the application, whichever occurs first. With a valid ETA, the
holder can make multiple trips to the UK, each time requesting permission to enter as either:
1- A visitor, allowing stays of up to 6 months per visit, or
2- A Creative Worker entering the UK under Appendix Temporary Work – Creative Worker as per
CRV 3.2.
The UK Home Office (UKVI) has the authority to revoke an ETA under certain circumstances:
Revocation Due to Exclusion or Deportation Orders An ETA must be revoked if:
1- The Secretary of State has ordered the individual’s exclusion from the UK,
2- The individual is subject to an exclusion order,
3- The individual is subject to a deportation order or a decision to issue such an order.
Revocation on Criminal Grounds An ETA must be revoked if the holder:
1- Has been convicted of a crime in the UK or abroad and sentenced to at least 12 months in
custody, or
2- Has been convicted of a crime unless more than 12 months have passed since the conviction.
Revocation on Non-Conducive Grounds An ETA must be revoked if the individual's presence in the UK is
deemed not conducive to the public good due to their conduct, character, associations, or other
reasons, even if these do not fall under criminal grounds.
Revocation Due to Immigration Law Violations An ETA must be revoked if the holder, at age 18 or
older:
1- Overstayed their permitted stay,
2- Violated the conditions of their stay without being granted subsequent permission with
awareness of the violation,
3- Entered the UK illegally,
4- Used deception in an immigration application, whether successfully or not.
Revocation Due to False Representations An ETA must be revoked if, in connection with the ETA
application:
1- False representations or documents were submitted, regardless of whether the applicant was
aware, or
2- Relevant information was not disclosed.
Revocation Due to NHS Debt An ETA must be revoked if the holder has failed to pay NHS charges of at
least £500, as reported by the NHS to the Secretary of State.
Revocation Due to Unpaid Litigation Costs An ETA must be revoked if the holder has not paid litigation
costs awarded to the Home Office.

The Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) is a new requirement for individuals who are not required to have a visa to visit the UK. It grants permission to travel to the UK and is digitally connected to your passport.
With an ETA, you are allowed to:
1- Stay in the UK for up to 6 months for purposes such as tourism, visiting family and friends,
business, or study.
2- Stay for up to 3 months under the Creative Worker visa concession.
3- Transit through the UK.
Starting from November 15, 2023, nationals of Qatar will need an ETA to travel to the UK. From
February 22, 2024, the requirement will extend to nationals of:
1- Bahrain
2- Jordan
3- Kuwait
4- Oman
5- Saudi Arabia
6- United Arab Emirates
Additional countries will be included in the scheme in the future.
You will not require an ETA if you:
1- Hold a British or Irish passport.
2- Have permission to live, work, or study in the UK.
3- Already have a visa to enter the UK.
If you are a legal resident of Ireland and do not need a visa to visit the UK, you will not need an ETA
when entering from:
1- Ireland
2- Guernsey
3- Jersey
4- Isle of Man
Applications can be submitted through the UK ETA app or online via GOV.UK.
Typically, you will receive a decision within three working days, although some decisions may be faster. If further checks are required, processing may take longer.
You will receive an email notification if your application is approved. The ETA will be electronically linked to the passport you used during the application, which you must use when traveling.
An ETA is valid for two years. During this period, you can make multiple trips to the UK. However, you must still either use an ePassport gate (if eligible) or see a Border Force officer to enter the UK. If your passport expires within two years, you will need to apply for a new ETA. Keep in mind, holding an ETA does not guarantee entry into the UK.
