comply with the requirements outlined in Appendix Student of the Immigration Rules. Upon a successful
application, the dependent will be granted permission to stay in the UK until the main applicant’s (the
student’s) visa expires.

Requirements for Student Dependent Visa Entry Clearance
To be granted a student dependent visa from outside the UK, applicants must meet the following
criteria, as reviewed by the Entry Clearance Officer (ECO):
1- Submit a valid application that adheres to the criteria specified in Appendix Student of the
Immigration Rules.
2- Satisfy the suitability requirements for a partner or child, ensuring they do not fall under the
grounds for refusal in Part 9.
3- Fulfill the student course requirement to be eligible for the dependent visa.
4- Meet the relationship requirements as outlined in Appendix Student.
5- Demonstrate financial stability by providing evidence of sufficient funds maintained for at least
28 days.
6- If applicable, provide a valid medical certificate proving they have been screened for active
pulmonary tuberculosis, as per paragraph A39 and Appendix T of the rules.
Student Course Requirement for Student Dependent Visa
Unless the applicant is a child who meets the criteria in ST 31.2 of Appendix Student, they must be the
partner or child of an individual who is:
1- A Student who has been awarded a government scholarship and has, or is applying for,
permission to study a full-time course of 6 months or longer.
2- A full-time Student with, or applying for, permission to study a postgraduate course of 9 months
or longer at a higher education provider with a track record of compliance.
3- A Student with permission under the Doctorate Extension Scheme.
4- A Student who, within the last 3 months before the application date, had permission to study a
full-time course of 6 months or longer and is now applying for permission to study another full-
time course of 6 months or longer, provided that either:
o The partner or child currently has, or had within the last 3 months, permission as a
dependent, or
o The child was born after the Student’s last grant of permission, and the Student and
their dependent(s) are applying together.
If applying as the partner of a Student, the applicant must fulfill the following relationship requirements:
1- The applicant must be the partner of a Student or someone applying simultaneously as a
Student.
2- Both the applicant and their partner must be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
3- If not married or in a civil partnership, the couple must:
o Have lived together in a marriage-like or civil partnership-like relationship for at least 2
years before applying.
o Have ended any previous relationships with other individuals permanently.
o Not be closely related to the extent that marriage would be prohibited in the UK.
4- The couple must intend to live together throughout the applicant’s stay in the UK.
5- The applicant should not plan to stay in the UK beyond the duration of their partner’s
permission.
When applying for entry clearance, the applicant or their partner (who must be a Student or applying at
the same time as a Student) must have the funds specified below for a total of 9 months or the duration
of the permission requested, whichever is shorter:
1- These funds must be separate from the funds required for the Student to meet their financial
obligations, as well as for any dependent child applying concurrently or already in the UK.
2- If the applicant is not receiving financial sponsorship from a government or international
scholarship agency covering both the applicant’s and Student’s living costs, they must show they
have held the required funds for at least 28 days, as specified in Appendix Finance.
3- If not applying simultaneously with the Student, the applicant must prove they have the
required funds as per Appendix Finance.
4- If the funds in the applicant’s account significantly decrease by the time of the decision, the
decision-maker must be convinced that the spent funds were used for accommodation deposits
or other necessary expenses for their stay in the UK.
To qualify as a dependent child of a Student in the UK, the child must meet specific criteria:
1- The child must be the offspring of a parent who either already has or is concurrently applying for
permission as:
o A Student; or
o The partner of a Student.
Both parents must either be applying at the same time as the child or already have permission to be in
the UK (excluding as a visitor). Exceptions to this requirement include:
2- If the parent with permission as a Student or the partner of a Student is the sole surviving
parent.
3- If the parent with permission as a Student or the partner of a Student has sole responsibility for
the child’s upbringing.
4- If there are compelling reasons, as determined by the decision-maker, to allow the child to join
the parent who has permission as a Student or as the partner of a Student.
If the child was born in the UK to a Student or their partner, a full UK birth certificate showing the names
of both parents must be provided.
If the applicant is under 18 at the time of the application, there must be proper arrangements
for their care and accommodation in the UK, in compliance with relevant UK laws and
regulations.
1- The child must be under 18 at the time of application unless they were previously granted
permission as a dependent child of the parent who is a Student or applying for entry clearance
or permission to stay as a Student or their partner, regardless of the parent's immigration status
at the time of the last grant.
2- If the child is 16 years or older at the time of the application, they must not be living an
independent life.
When applying for entry clearance, the applicant or their parent must demonstrate that they have the
necessary funds, as detailed below, for a period of 9 months or the duration of the permission sought,
whichever is shorter:
